It is so refreshing to watch trees shoot up new leaves after the winter. The bare trees suddenly become lively and beautiful. The leaves grow greener and greener and by ‘the fall’ they turn yellow and finally fall off in the wind. A healthy leaf has the life of only about eight months. But with in this period it completes its duty duly, in helping the tree to be nourished, beautiful and healthy.
Every life is destined to meet some responsibility in its given time.. When it is over, the end comes. The point is whether an intelligent man made in the image of God realizes his responsibility. Many do not and live a life of disgrace and frustration. They have many lame excuses for not using their lives profitably, sometimes even giving pains to others.. But those who realize it succeed in life, giving joy to others and attaining a sense of fulfillment.
John the Baptist came for a purpose; “To prepare the way” for the Messiah. He lived in the wilderness leading a very simple life reminding the people to repent of their sins and to turn to God leading a righteous and godly life, worthy of the Kingdom of God. He also reminded them of the consequences of not doing it. He did not live an ostentatious life, neither did he want himself to be known nor had an identity. “He was only a voice “.He pointed to “The lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world” When Jesus entered the scene, his mission was over and left the stage.
There are many lives that do silent work for the Lord. They are content and happy. Others, who make so much fuss to make themselves known, may even disturb the peace of others. They end achieving nothing for the Creator. Of course, “Empty vessels make much noise.”
Let us be the “voice” shouting the message of the love of God loud and clear. It is the message of the love of the Lord Jesus who gave Himself for others and not projecting our own ego. The message may not necessarily be with words, but in behavior and attitude only.. How ever, the message is effective only if our lives reflect it. A candle can give light only by burning itself out. .Let us give light and disappear. This is the wise and the far sighted life. We may not be recognized but what we speak for the Lord will certainly be honored by the Almighty… “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the heaven”. (Daniel 12:3)
The important thing is whether we have found out the will of God for us. If we have, let us ask for His help to do it for His glory. If not, we need to be alone with the Lord. “When we listen, He speaks to us and when we obey, He works though us.” In our busy life, sometimes busy and noisy in trifle things, let us go apart with Jesus. He is there to help us. Let us make our lives what they are meant for and not to waste it meaninglessly as a “sounding symbol” Let us be the echo of God’s love and grace.
